A category of heat-resistant minerals that can be woven into fabrics, and is used in fire-resistant and insulating materials such as drywall, insulation or adhesives such as vinyl floor backing or tape.
Asbestos was banned from use in some insulating and fireproofing materials in 1973. There were many other bans that covered different uses throughout the 1970’s. In 1990, the EPA stopped allowing the application of materials containing more than 1% asbestos. It wasn’t until 2019 that the reselling of previously discontinued asbestos products were banned from being resold in the United States.
