A sump is a pit where liquid collects, especially on the floor of the basement or crawlspace. A basin is a wide, round, open container, used for holding liquid. A sump basin is a water collection hole in the floor, normally in a basement or crawlspace. A sump basin can also be called a “catch basin,” “sump pit” or “sump well.”
